THE FISHING

Lake Simtustus consistently produces the largest fish caught in the state of Oregon. Huge Brown Trout, Bull Trout, Rainbow Trout, Kokanee and Smallmouth Bass are commonly caught on this lake.

Good fishing abounds from one end of the lake to the other. Look for underground water falls like these, cast a worm or spinner lure nearby and catch one of those lunkers you have always dreamed about.
The photos here and on the fishing photos page are why people keep returning year after year to Lake Simtustus RV Park. All these fish were caught at Lake Simtustus and the campground hosts can tell you what to use to catch fish like these.
Every year, some of the largest fish caught in the state of Oregon are pulled from the depths of this popular Lake. The hosts at Lake Simtustus RV Park know the times of year, the times of day, the types of bait and where to go to catch the fish.

17 1/2 lb. Rainbow!

Hazel Dell Hooker with a 17 1/2 lb. Rainbow Trout caught on opening day a few years ago. Over the years, Trout fishing has been very good here at Lake Simtustus. Kokanee fishing is good for larger size Kokanee that come through the dam from Lake Billy Chinook. Jigging for limits of large Kokanee has been very popular here.

You will need a tribal permit to fish on Lake Simtustus. We sell them at the store.

Vancouver, Washington Angler visits every Year.

Steve Beattie of Vancouver, has fished Lake Simtustus every year for the last 15 years or more. Large Browns Trout Bull Trout and Rainbow Trout are what he's after. If you see Steve on the lake, the docks or at the campground, stop him and ask what he's using. He's always willing to let you know what works for him. Whether it's large Brown Trout, Bull Trout or Kokanee Salmon, Steve usually has an idea of what's going on here and just what you should be trying to catch these trophies.

Lots Of Kokanee!

Kokanee are a very popular fish to catch at Lake Simtustus. There are no Kokanee planted in Lake Simtustus so they are not caught every year. The Kokanee get there by coming through the dam at Lake Billy Chinook. During the years when Kokanee arrive there is always sure to be great fishing as you can see in the photo above. In the movie below Steve Beattie holds up a 5+ lb Trout he caught in 2008.
